Antipsychotic drugs from Europe

We were asked by a customer to source over 10,000 packs of two antipsychotic drugs from a specific country in mainland Europe for a clinical trial.

The original project, which began in March, had so many specification changes that by the end the quantities, strength and even the country of source had altered. Over the five month procurement process we had countless communications by telephone, email and fax with both the project managers and purchasing department.

Unfortunately the order was delayed due to last minute changes and reached us as Europe was 'closing' for the summer holidays. Although prior agreement had been received from the relevant pharmaceutical companies to supply these drugs to us, all the decision makers were away and nothing could be done until their return.

Our customer had a strict schedule to keep to and had given us a final delivery date that could not be put back, allowing us an extremely narrow window of opportunity to import the goods, check them and deliver them to our customer.

We made daily calls to our supplier and customer throughout almost all of July and August to ensure the order would go through, and it was touch and go at times.

But by huge logistical organisation (managing a succession of freight suppliers from Europe) and some luck, we managed to deliver almost a week ahead of the deadline date, to everyone's great relief.
